At DLG Waldtage Pfanzelt Maschinenbau showcased a timber harvesting protection screen for deciduous trees featuring deadwood around the crown.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At DLG Waldtage Pfanzelt Maschinenbau showcased a timber harvesting protection screen for deciduous trees featuring deadwood around the crown.

It is attached to the Moritz forwarding tractor and can be hydraulically extended and retracted. It is suitable for trees with a maximum trunk diameter of 60 cm and when extended, it is 5 metres in diameter. Thanks to the screen’s steel frame and a high-strength, double-layer protection net, chainsaw operators are protected when implementing the kerf and felling cut. In this process, operators can monitor the crown of the tree through the net.

Hydraulic press unit

Once operators have implemented kerfs, the front of the protection screen opens (in the area where the kerf is) and fells the tree using a hydraulic press unit. The hydraulic press unit is connected to the Moritz by an up to 20-metre-long hydraulics line. As a result, chainsaw operators can also move away with the Moritz to a safe area and fell the tree using the remote controlled press unit. After having processed the tree the protective roof simply retracts and moves the Moritz to the next tree.

It goes without saying that any Moritz featuring this additional equipment continues to be suitable for timber harvesting with cable winches.

The Moritz mini felling tractor including protective screen is priced around €75,000.

Nominated for Austrofoma innovation prize

The specialist forestry technology committee at the Austrian forestry association has nominated the Pfanzelt protection screen for the Austrofoma innovation prize. The specialist panel added 18 of 30 submitted innovations to the short list. The awards will be handed out to the three winners on 9 October between 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm at the exhibition tent.

-------------------------------------------------------------
