Forestry cranes

Pfanzelt forestry cranes are designed for professional duty. Besides loading cranes for forwarding trailers, the Pfanzelt crane range also includes cranes for mounting on standard tractors and specialist forestry tractors for forwarding short and long timber. These usually have a larger lifting force and a higher pivoting moment to enable powerful pivoting of the crane – even uphill.

More details on the cranes

Slewing gear

Pfanzelt cranes have especially robust and powerful 4-cylinder slewing gear. The resulting high pivoting moment means that loading work can also be performed when working uphill.

Table of pivoting moments of the Pfanzelt forestry crane

Crane seriesNet pivoting moment
41*, 42*, 43*15.2 kNm
51*, 52*21.5 kNm
71*27.0 kNm
91*32.0 kNm
93*36.0 kNm

The large distance between the bearings and the oil immersion bath ensure reliable operation. Strains that are generated when working with heavy trunks are safely absorbed.

Crane attachment

Pfanzelt loading cranes are available in two different versions. The distinction lies in the position of the main boom cylinder.
The top mounting of the cylinder protects it from damage when handling timber. So that the upright main boom cylinder is also protected from damage, this is mounted so that the piston rod is protected by the forwarding trailer’s fender grille.

Crane loading class B4

Pfanzelt cranes are made of especially tough special steel. The crane is rated according to crane loading class B4 for permanent dynamic loading.

Crane bearings
All fitting pins of the crane are mounted in durable, lubricatable hardened bronze bushings. The axial play of the bolt bearings can be infinitely adjusted.

Safety

At Pfanzelt safe handling of forestry machines has the topmost priority. All cranes fitted on ex works on Pfanzelt machines come with a crane test log and initial acceptance certificate from an independent crane expert in accordance with the regulations of the German employers’ liability insurance association (BG).

Hose routing

The hydraulic hoses run from the control block to the crane tip so as they are protected, ensuring low downtimes and the highest degree of safety. Pfanzelt therefore attaches the highest priority to ensuring that the hydraulic hoses are protected over the entire crane by being concealed. At points of high physical loading, the hoses are laid in a hose shaft. Additional rotary cutouts increase the service life of the hydraulic hoses.

To increase operator safety, the hoses are also routed through a hose shaft in the vicinity of the control stand.

The telescopic cylinder is also internally mounted, protecting it from damage during crane work.

The optionally available pendulum with internally laid hydraulic hoses enables protection right up to the crane tip. This is also equipped with a
double pendulum brake.

Power link system

The toggle system of Pfanzelt forestry cranes – also known as the power link system – between the main boom and folding boom ensures optimum crane geometry for loading work. Ergonomic loading directly onto the headache rack is also thus made possible. It also ensures constant force, greater reach and a higher working speed.

Rapid traverse valve

Pfanzelt forestry cranes are the only such cranes on the market equipped as standard with a rapid traverse valve. This enables the rapid telescopic extension even in the case of telescopic booms with only one extension tube. The electrically control rapid traverse valve directs the hydraulic oil that flows from the cylinder straight back into the latter and thus achieves an approx. 1.5 fold extension speed.

Operating station

The Pfanzelt operating station mounted as standard on the draw bar provides a well organised work station outside the hazard zone with an optimum view for safety purposes of the loading crane and the surrounding area. The back rest of the platform and the hand guard over the control toggles optimise operator safety and create ergonomic working conditions.

Controller

The efficiency of the operator is maximised by perfectly ergonomic controls. In addition to the operating position, this is also determined by the crane controller. All Pfanzelt forestry cranes are fitted as standard with a mechanical control block, 2 control toggles each with an electrical switch. This means that the individual boom movements can be easily and rapidly coordinated, without having to reach for different control levers or turning.

In addition to a mechanical crane control, the crane can also be operated via an EHC controller with a cord or wireless control panel.

The crane can also be controlled via two separate toggle switches that are installed on a rotary seat in the tractor or on a control panel. The two ergonomic Danfoss Pro 1 joysticks enable a very precise control.

Stabilisers

Optimum parking stability for operating the loading crane is assured by the A-column stabilisers. The telescopic stabilisers create secure support even in dense stands of timber and on slopes. They also mean it possible to get close to log stacks.

In addition to the A-pillar support, an H-pillar support is also available. The wider bearing surface ensures even greater stability.

Independent hydraulic oil supply (option)

For carrier vehicles with low hydraulic power and when various tractors are pooled, Pfanzelt cranes can be equipped with an independent hydraulic system – safe and fuel saving oil supply is thus assured. The oil supply tank is neatly integrated in the A-column support, avoiding field of vision restrictions.

Crane accessories

Crane floodlight (option)

On request, the crane can be equipped with crane floodlights. It is possible to have two floodlights fitter to the side of the crane column or one floodlight mounted on the inside of the telescopic arm. In addition to the H3 floodlight, a robust LED spotlight can be installed.

Hydraulic oil cooler (option)

The forwarding trailer can optionally be equipped with a hydraulic oil cooler. This is especially useful for large cranes with hydraulic drive.

2.0 exTEND crane cable winch (option)

If the crane’s reach is not long enough, the crane winch can be used to pull the material to be lifted closer. The new Pfanzelt exTEND crane cable winch is more convenient and safer to use.

 • 1.5 metric tons of tractive force, 50 m cable capacity
 • Professional forestry remote control
 • Simple switchover option between hydraulic freewheel switch and forwards as well as backwards motion
 • Mechanical drum overrun brake

Operating hours counter (option)

The operating hours counter records the hours in which the loading crane is service. This is especially useful if the forwarding trailer is shared by several users or is hired out.

Trunk scraper (option)

A trunk scraper facilitates loading work with the forestry crane, especially with long sections or very long treetop material. The scraper is mounted on the main boom of the crane.

Grippers

Clam shell grippers can be mounted on the regular grippers for loading dry bulk. Special gripper attachments for loading round bales are also available as accessories.

The 4-finger gripper ensures easy loading of branches and cut wood.

Pfanzelt gripers adapted to various crane sizes are available in various sizes

Moritz mini felling tractor

Anywhere where a cable winch is required to ensure safe working, the new Moritz Fr50 mini felling tractor is the perfect aid. The mini felling tractor also impresses in forwarding work on demanding terrain and in sensitive timber stands. Optionally, standard three-point implements with PTO drive can be mounted (e.g. mulchers).
